Welcome

A confidential space to explore the thoughts, feelings and challenges in your life

About Me

I am a qualified integrative counsellor and UKCP trainee psychotherapist working with adult clients in Birmingham and Oldbury.

Having worked as a Psychology teacher in the 16-18 sector for many years, with a strong interest in mental health and inclusion, I have an MSc in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy and I am currently undertaking a fourth year of advanced training and working towards accreditation as a UKCP Psychotherapist.

I have experience working with diverse clients with a wide range of issues in the charity sector in central Birmingham.

I have a small private practice offering individual therapy in a calm, safe and confidential space. My therapy room in the Custard Factory, Digbeth is a 10 minute walk from Birmingham city centre, train stations and the Bull Ring.

I also see clients in a small counselling centre close to the green space of Warley Woods, within easy access from Edgbaston, Harborne, Bearwood and Quinton, as well as being easily reached from Junctions 2 and 3 of the M5.

I offer remote video appointments (UK-wide).

Speak in confidence

Counselling offers a safe, confidential space where you can share your thoughts and feelings without judgement. Working together in a collaborative and creative relationship, we can explore the difficulties you are facing, bringing into awareness patterns in your thinking, behaviour and relationships that may be preventing you from moving forward and living your life more fully and authentically.

Developing strategies

Counselling is usually time-limited over weeks or months and has a particular focus or goal.

Whether you are struggling to cope with changes or transitions in your life, or hoping to bring about a change or new direction, counselling can help you find your way forward.

Strategies for coping can be developed that will help you to feel more confident in managing your current issues.

Deeper change

Psychotherapy aims for deeper change, usually over a longer period of time. We work together, addressing underlying issues in the way that you relate to yourself and others.

We explore the root causes of current and past issues, softening stuck ways of relating to others and responding to situations.

What issues can counselling help with?

People seek counselling for a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that I work with:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Family and relationship issues
  • Loss of confidence
  • Low self-esteem
  • Issues at work or in retirement
  • Issues at school/college
  • Stress and burnout
  • Anger issues
  • Trauma
  • Abuse
  • Bereavement, loss and grief

How I work

I offer a warm and collaborative relationship in our work together. My core approach is gestalt psychotherapy, which focuses on your immediate experience and relationships in the present, and explores patterns of relating with others and responding to situations that are no longer helpful, opening up the path forward to change.

The gestalt approach considers your past experience, environment, culture and family and how they influence your experience in the present. I integrate psychodynamic approaches to therapy that help you to understand how your relationships in the past may play out in your current life situation.

Cognitive-behavioural and mindfulness-based approaches may be used as part of my integrative approach to support practical changes and coping strategies in your present situation.

I offer time-limited counselling focused on specific issues, as well as open-ended therapy.

I work with adults of all ages on issues including depression and anxiety, family and relationships, identity, culture, gender, sexuality, body image and neurodiversity. I am passionate about inclusion and I am neurodiversity, LGBTQIA+ and relationship diversity affirming.

I support people through every stage of adult life, and many seek counselling to manage transitions including leaving home or care, marriage, relationship issues, separation and divorce, fertility issues, parenthood and childlessness, career transitions, stress/burnout and feeling stuck, as well as adjusting to later life, menopause, children growing up and leaving home, and retirement.

Mental health problems including depression and anxiety can affect people at any stage in life as can coping with physical illness, disability, grief and loss.

I abide by the UKCP code of ethics. More information can be found here.
